Leadership in the crisis: Early involvement of employees

Close to people, closer to success: Involve your employees into the management of the crisis at an early stage.
Close to people, closer to success: Involve your employees into the management of the crisis at an early stage.

Please ensure that you, as an executive, inform your employees at an early stage about the crisis and attune them to the challenges ahead. Because: Close to the people is closer to success. Learn here how to successfully integrate your team into the process of change.

It is important to get all employees on your side right from the start, regardless of hierarchies. The solution to the problems is often not found
at the top level, but on the shop floor, the place of value creation.

Your greatest asset: The employees

The greatest asset in your company is the human capital. Whether it is assembly line work or the Industry 4.0 - ultimately it is the people who
control the proceedings, decide on the processes and operate the machines. That is why I rely on the guiding principle of outplacement specialist Eberhard von Rundstedt: "Close to people, closer to success". In my activities, this maxim has already proven many times.

Manage the crisis together

Discuss the current situation with your employees early on. This will give the employees an understanding of the crisis and they will see
themselves as part of the plan to bring the company back on track. The following instruments are particularly suitable for this purpose:

  • An executive circle – multipliers regularly inform the individual departments/areas, meeting: every two weeks
  • Staff meeting – all employees are informed simultaneously, once a month
  • Workforce meeting – organized by the Works Council, every 2 to 3 months

Last but not least one more tip: Show proximity to people and place the round table in the middle of the production hall, the order processing
office or the development area for a change. You will see: The discussions with the supervisors and coworkers will take place on a completely different level. For me this is the finger on the pulse.
